This printmaking workshop will introduce you to the art of Dong Ho woodblock printing (also fondly known as Dong Ho folk paintings). It is an ancient craft which started in Dong Ho village, Bac Ninh province, in the 15th century.
Age: This workshop is friendly to both children aged 5+ as well as adults.
Tuition fee : 450.000 vnd/ pax
This fee includes all materials and tools. Our instructor makes all natural colors by herself.
You will learn the hand-made technique and materials that make these prints special, from the engraved woodblocks to the five natural color ingredients to the mother-of-pearl coated paper (or điệp paper). For hundreds of years, traditional imagery is hand-printed this way before making its way into the homes of ordinary folks who wish to adorn their humble dwellings every lunar new year. These prints exist to bring luck and prosperity to the people.
Inspired by this, INGO has adapted this traditional technique to make a do-it-yourself printmaking kit for children, as a way to bridge the ancient craft and future generations.
Come play with woodblocks created by INGO and take home your very first woodblock print. And if you are adventurous enough, a tote bag printed with the same blocks.
Everyone will bring home some sample prints on Diep paper with Dong Ho style of natural pigment inks, and a Tote-bag print.
Please book your seat by paying in advance.
